Building a Living Archive
COJA organized, edited, and structured more than 100 written submissions from incarcerated authors into a navigable digital archive for Stony Brook University. The project required narrative clarity, thoughtful curation, and a system that honored the creators while making the material usable for students, faculty, and the wider public.
Throughout the project, COJA attended weekly meetings with the faculty team, created a comprehensive CMS user manual, and trained staff to manage the archive independently. The collaboration ensured long-term sustainability and gave the university full control over a complex, high-volume digital collection.
